The Nationale 2 is slowly dividing into two groups after the results from the last game day. There are 6 teams with a balanced or positive record while 4 teams are on the negative side. Let’s see what happened last weekend including a blowout at the game of the week and a surprising comeback by a golden oldie.
In the top game of the weekend, Black Star destroyed AB Contern and gave them their first loss of the season. Contern had no chance as Black Star came out strong on the court and put on a 10-0 run to lead 25-11 after the first quarter. The game was never in danger for the hosts, despite a slight comeback of Contern in the 3rd quarter. To be noted that Tom Rausch was in the squad as well as Derek Wilson, known as former American player for AB Contern, Walferdange and Etzella among others. Wilson does not count as foreign player anymore and he is willing to help Black Star in the paint until the end of the season. He had 2 points in his comeback while Black Star was lead by the 28 points of Billy McDaniel.
BC Mess survived at home against the Hedgehogs despite a 9 point deficit before the last 10 minutes. But a 5th foul for John Holmes reduced the chances of Bascharage to win this one and they had to give the victory away by the slightest of margins and despite 16 points by Arnes Osmanovic and 26 from Ivan Tomas. Mess was lead by the 20 points of Domonique Crawford and Chris Dentzer while Bojan Petrovic had 15.
Racing won their fifth game in a row and forms now the three-team lead of the Nationale 2 together with Contern and Mersch. The team around Eric Grand beat Mondorf on the road and put the team of Yves Braun even lower in the standings. Grengewald made a big step ahead by defeating Pall Basket Arel in the Spetz gym. It were 12 points by Steve Binna in the last quarter that gave the Greens the decisive run after a game that was balanced during the first 30 minutes. Finally, the Red Miners had no problems to win with the arrival of their new US player Cameron Hodges against the still winless Kordall Steelers.
The next games to be followed in particular are of course the match-up between Black Star and BC Mess while the Hedgehogs will play against Mondorf. Both games are highly important for the participating team in order to underline their current trends or to break out of a losing spiral. Contern should have no problems to win against Kordall despite their heavy loss from last weekend while the game between Grengewald Hostert and Racing Luxembourg risks to become a close one. Kayldall will host Pall Basket Arel in a first match for this season and the loser of this game will see some deeper problems in the next weeks.

The Nationale 2 continues and Contern remains unbeaten this season. The team of coach Mark Reed won against Mondorf despite the 29 points of Yves Braun. But Reggie Fuller totlaly dominated the game on both ends of the floor as the US player from Contern had an incredible Dwight Howard-like double-double with 31pts and 28 rebs.
The Hedgehogs continue their surprising season with a 20 points victory over Grengewald Hostert behind the excellent scorer Ivan Tomas (30pts) and 25 from John Holmes. Racing dominated Arlon in a tumultuous Tramschapp where the police had to intervene to calm some Lithuanian supporters supporting their “hero” Laimonas Lukosevicius a bit too much from the stands. The Racing player seemed to like it and scored 31 to give his team anothe win. The 29 points and 22 rebounds from Marko Pavlovic did not help Arlon in the end. Black Star did not have many problems to win against Kordall (Billy McDaniel had 37 points) while BC Mess (Petrovic 22, Schreiner 20, Crawford 15pts) dominated Kayldall during the week
The upcoming weekend is marked by the game at the top of the standings between Black Star Mersch and AB Contern. The two former Diekirch League teams will go for a major fight for the first spot in the standing where the team from Contern can be considered as the small favorite. Mersch already lost a game this season and might get some problems because of their smaller rotation. Contern looked dominating so far but they had some problems with Mondorf last weekend. So everything is possible in this match-up.
BC Mess will play against Bascharage in a game that not everybody expected to have a influence on the top 4 positions in the standings at this moment of the season. The young Hedgehogs are the major surprise of the season so far while BC Mess looks like a favorite despite the season-ending injury of Tim Steffen.
At the bottom of the Ranking, Kayldall will play against Kordall in a game where the locals should be able to increase the gap to the non-relegating spots in the table. Mondorf will get the visit from the improving Racing team. The hosts need to win this one in order to get out of the Bottom 4 regions quickly while Racing lost only one game so far. A road win would not be a big surprise in this setting. Finally, Pall Arel will get the visit from Grengewald. This is a very open game and any side can win. The Greens should be able to contain Pavlovic on the Belgian side and therefore stop their major offensive threat.
